Ladies from the Baltimore Urban Debate League had the privilege to attend the Associated Black Charities‘ Girls Night Out 2015 Event featuring inspirational speaker, T.V. host on the Oprah Network, and attorney, Ms. Iyanla Vanzant.  It was an evening where girl power was definitely strong and present!

Students began their evening with an elegant dinner at Five Guys Burgers and Fries (though they were dressed to impress, the most impressive thing was the amount of burgers and fries consumed)!  After their lovely meal, the seven ladies from various Baltimore City High Schools had a round table discussion about issues relevant to young women in today’s society.

Our ladies arrived at the Meyerhoff Symphony Hall with great anticipation to meet Iyanla Vanzant.  There was a beautifully hosted silent auction along with an exclusive meet and greet where they had the opportunity rub elbows with some of the DMV’s most successful women of color.  From the co-chair of the event to Ms. Vanzant herself, BUDL’s awesome young ladies got the chance to really see demonstrations of success, focus, perseverance, confidence, control and humility through these face-to-face interactions.

The theme for the extremely motivational presentation by Ms. Vanzant came from one question, ” If you were arrested and charged with being a woman, would there be enough evidence to convict you?”  The discussion about teaching by demonstration, standing for what’s right, and how to develop your purpose and confidence as a woman inspired every woman at this event to leave feeling a bit more ready to face the world!  If that’s not a sense of girl power,  then I don’t know what is!

Check out our photo album from the event on our Facebook! Thanks again to Iyanla Vanzant and ABC for this lovely opportunity!!!!  Don’t forget to stay connected to see more updates from BUDL.  Friend or Like us on Facebook – Baltimore Urban Debate League, Tweet us at #budldebate or #15yearsofdebate or share pictures on Instagram @bmoredebate.
